Zott’s new CEO meets young farmers

German dairy Zott had at a campaign day for young farmers and invited them to its new administration premises in Mertingen. Here, the participants got to meet new Zott CEO Frank Uszko and took the opportunity to discuss current topics with him such as the organic market, forms of husbandry, milk alternatives and the milk price.

The farmers also went to the nearby Zott factory to visit the production facilities, where the guests, wrapped up in white overalls, blue shoe covers and red toques, were guided through the various production areas of the dairy and were able to experience at first hand, how a wide variety of yogurt and cheese products are made from their milk.

The participants then had a lecture programme, where the focus initially was on animal health and the question of how the costs of dairy farming can be optimally planned, managed and controlled. Peter Hufe, managing director of the aCareLab in Leipzig, who has specialised in the combination of innovative diagnostics and operational efficiency with his laboratory and consulting concept, gave a presention on this.

During the following talk, Magdalena Zintl, herd manager and finalist of the DLG Agri Influencer Award 2022, took the participants into the world of social media, which also offers farmers many opportunities to bring the public closer and to convey a real picture of agriculture.

A few interested young farmers then went on to the nearby municipality of Altenmünster, where a Zott producer opened the stable doors to show how the conversion from a tie stall to a loose stall can work in a sustainable way.
