Hochdorf to close standard powder site in Switzerland

Swiss dairy and baby food group Hochdorf has planned to close its production site in Hochdorf at the end of 2026. From then on, Hochdorf will only produce in Sulgen.

Due to the strategic focus on baby food, only those systems necessary for the production of baby food will be used. The company is thus reducing its capacity for standard milk powder.

The relocation of all powder drying capacities from Hochdorf to Sulgen would require high investments, which would not be economically justifiable due to the relatively low profitability of the powder market, according to Hochdorf.

The company currently operates two rollers and a spray belt dryer at its Hochdorf location.

However, the end of powder production in Hochdorf is not yet completely sealed. According to Hochdorf, the company remains open to finding capital from interested parties.

Hochdorf had already announced in the summer of 2021 that it would close production in In Hochdorf, where 80 to 100 million kilograms of milk are dried into standard milk powder. Up to 500 dairy farms will have to look for a new buyer after the closure.
