Local authorities in the Spanish region of Valencia have forced yogurt maker Yoplait to withdraw an advertisement on the grounds that it could upset farmers.
The advert shows a fruit shop owner who decides to turn his business into a hairdresser’s salon. Since a new fruit yogurt hit the market nobody buys fresh fruit to eat anymore, using it only as a hair decoration.
The government in Valencia, where most of Spain’s oranges are grown, is reported to have said that the campaign was disloyal and degrading. It is understood to have threatened to instigate legal action if Yoplait did not withdraw it.
