Organic success no mystery to Danes

The switch to organically produced milk and its products continues at top speed in Denmark, Austria and Germany.
Latest marketing figures comparing 1998 and 1999 sales show the biggest increase was in Denmark, with a rise in organic milk production of 114%.
Last year, 343 million kg of organic milk was produced in Denmark, representing 12% of total milk output. In fact, 30% of all drinking milk now sold on the domestic market originates from organic farms, according to the Danish Dairy Board.
German organic milk producers delivered just over 340 million kg to dairies in 1999, representing a 36% increase on the previous year. This production is 1.25% of total milk output for that country.
While Denmark claims to have little problem in selling organic dairy products, Germany and Austria both report that by no means all their organic milk earns a premium
