Ireland’s largest dairy co-operative Dairygold is stopping cheese formatting operations at its Crewe, UK site and is discussing plans for selling the Leeds operation, which has 40 employees, according to the Irish Examiner website. The Crewe plant employs around 90 people and provides shredded, diced, grated and sliced cheese for UK foodservice and food manufacturers. This follows after the dairy business conducted a strategic review of the UK operations, where it plans to focus capital on its core dairy, agri and health and nutrition business, the website notes.
The Leeds plan produces a range of soft cheeses for foodservice, and the firm has said there has been interest from third parties.
