Global cheese awards

A young cheesemaker from Hartington has helped put the village firmly in the spotlight after winning Gold at this year’s Global Cheese Awards, as Hartington Creamery celebrated four awards in total.
Leoni Mosley, a local young cheesemaker who joined Hartington Creamery after gaining a first-class degree in Business Management in York, won Gold in the Novice class for Hartington Brie — a cheese she has helped create and develop at the creamery.
Leoni said, “I am so very grateful to have received this award. Thank you to everyone who supported me. It’s fantastic to be working for a cheese business with so much heritage.”
The award is especially meaningful because the Brie is still in trials and not yet available for purchase. The creamery had not planned to talk about it quite so soon, but Leoni’s success has given Hartington a very welcome reason to share the news.
Managing director Robert said, “We’re incredibly proud of Leoni. Hartington has a long cheesemaking history, but its future depends on young people learning the craft, caring about the tradition and helping us take it forward. This award is a brilliant moment for Leoni and for the whole creamery.”
For the creamery, the results are a proud moment for the whole team and for a village with deep roots in cheesemaking. Hartington Creamery received four awards at the Global Cheese Awards 2026, recognising the care, patience and craftsmanship that go into making proper Derbyshire cheese.
The full results:
· Gold for Hartington Devonshire Gold
· Bronze for Hartington Blue Stilton
· Gold in the Novice class for Hartington Brie, made by Leoni Mosley
· Silver for Hartington Dovedale Blue PDO
Robert added: “This is a proud moment for everyone at Hartington. These awards reflect the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that the whole team has put in this year as we continue to bring Hartington cheese back to where it belongs.”
Leoni’s award also reflects something bigger happening at Hartington Creamery: the revival of traditional cheesemaking, the training of the next generation, and a renewed confidence in the future of Derbyshire cheese.
With Christmas cheese season just around the corner, the timing could hardly be better. For customers, supporters and everyone who has followed the creamery’s journey, the international, British and Global wins offer a special way to begin one of the busiest times of the year.
A huge thank you goes to the Hartington Creamery team, its customers and everyone who continues to support proper Derbyshire cheese. Above all, congratulations go to Leoni Mosley on a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for Hartington.
