The German government’s consumer protection division has called for more detailed labelling within the milk-processing sector.

Most suppliers are voluntarily printing details of calorie content, fat, carbohydrates, sugar, salt and saturated fatty acids on product labels already.
The consumer protection division is in the process of arguing for the printing of total values for the package unit as well as per portion and percentage valuations in relation to average daily dietary requirements.
IIse Aigner, the German minister responsible, has signified that she is in favour of mandatory declaration of all these points on the packaging of dairy products and other foods. She is against the traffic light system for ingredients adopted in some other European countries.
