British cheese makers committed to lower salt levels
British cheese makers have successfully hit government targets to reduce salt in their products, according to a straw poll conducted by Dairy UK.
More detailed data was due to be gathered last month, but feedback from Dairy UK members has been positive since the new targets were developed last year between the dairy industry and the Food Standards Agency.
The news means that British cheeses are delivering at least 350 tonnes less salt to the nation’s diets this year than they did in 2007.
