Bayernland moves into fresh milk
Nornberg, Germany-based dairy coop Bayernland used to specialise in butter and cheese and was long established as one of the top 10 dairies in Germany in terms of annual turnover with some €700 million in 2006.
But now it has moved into the fresh milk marketing sector with products available through an ongoing merger with fellow-Bavarian coop Domspitzmilch in Regensburg – a move which increased turnover to around €988 million in 2007. In total, Bayernland produced 150,000 tonnes of butter and cheese last year with some 118,000 tonnes of fresh milk products from its Domspitz partner, according to figures just released. The butter and cheese output indicates an increase in annual production of some 30,000 tonnes over the 2006 returns.
