Australian fresh milk export to Asia
A Western Australian dairy farm will become the first family-run business in Australia to export fresh milk to Asia.
Bannister Downs Farm has 1,000 cows and is currently producing just over three million litres of milk annually. Director Mat Daubney says 1,000 litres a week will be sent to Hong Kong initally, and the new biodegradable packaging will reduce costs in air freight. “Basically they believe they can get our milk from Northcliffe to Hong Kong in 24 hours and deliver it onto a shop shelf,” he says. “So they’re pretty confident that they can do it and we can probably certainly cover it from our end.
“In the shipments we’ve done so far, we’ve been able to fit 1,000 litres in a cubic metre and all that is with seven kilos of packaging.”
