Austria’s top dairy moves in on UK
Austria’s dairy products market leader, Nieder Osterreich Milch (NOM), has submitted plans for a production facility at Telford, England, where local milk will be used to produce yogurt and yogurt drinks primarily for the UK market.
The plant will be the headquarters of a new company, NOM Dairy UK Ltd, and its main output will include private label products for leading supermarket chains, according to the company. With the UK importing 142,000 t of yogurt from mainland Europe every year, the Austrian company has noted increasing campaigns to reduce the carbon footprint of dairy products by encouraging more sales of home-produced goods. NOM exports its Austrian produced butter, yogurt, yogurt drinks and cream cheeses to 18 countries and has been present in the UK market since 2001.
