EU milk quotas could rise from 2008

Europe’s farm chief has opened the door to raising national EU milk quotas next year as a way of curbing steep price rises. But she added that certain countries should become more flexible in applying EU rules.

Several EU governments have suggested increased allowances from 2008/09 ahead of the bloc’s scheduled abolition of its production quota system in 2004/15, as a response to soaring prices
