Increased butter prices in Germany

Germany’s association of milk processors (MIV) warns of a winter with rising retail prices for all dairy products. A long hot period in the main milk produ
ction areas of Benelux and southern Germany has sharply reduced milk deliveries to creameries this summer, according to MIV. Result: butter, cheese and milk powders have all become scarcer and therefore dearer. Stores of reserve butter have already been emptied throughout the EU to help stabilise prices, says Eckhard Heuser, MIV managing director. “As in other branches, the consumer will experience this shortage in the form of rising food prices, including those for milk products,” he adds.
