The Austrian dairy NÖM still seeks a buyer for its daughter company NOM UK in Telford. The plant, built in 2009 for a total investment of €125 million has made losses totalling €51 m since then, according to the Vienna-based majority shareholder Raiffeisen Holding Lower Austria-Vienna. The UK situation has now affected financial performance back home where NÖM is Austria’s second-largest dairy (2011 turnover €330 m). After reporting a profit of €7.4 m in 2010 it has just announced a loss of €7.3 m for 2011 – and put most of the blame on the failure of its UK plans where the Telford dairy was to spearhead a series of export campaigns into France and Scandinavia as well as intensifying sales of NÖM products on the British market.
