Australia stops Roquefort cheese shipment again

A dispute over Roquefort cheese is stirring again in Australia after authorities rejected a recent shipment of the blue cheese.

Hopes of new market opportunities were raised last year as the country lifted a 10-year ban on the cheese, imposed due to concerns about the safety of unpasteurised sheeps milk.
Australian safety inspectors blocked their fourth shipment since the ban ended as the cheese contained E.coli bacteria above levels deemed safe by the Food Standards Australia New Zealand. Negotiations to strike a deal are ongoing involving foreign affairs, trade, food safety and agriculture delegates.
