Good news for dairy

This week, the US-based thinktank Global Dairy Platform sent a copy of Time magazine’s article, “Don’t Blame Fat” to my attention. It is telling us what those in the dairy industry already know – a blanket removal of fat from the human diet has not made us healthier and less prone to heart disease. Indeed, the “vast nutritional experiment” that the western world began in the late 1970s can be deemed a failure by any stretch of the imagination. What the article also points out is that dairy, as we already know, is a special case. There is more of a protective element in dairy fats versus those found in meat, and saturated fats themselves are fairly complex. I think the end message is to keep it simple, and dairy provides some of the most nutritional bang for people’s money.
