Unilever chairman receives SCI award
UK – Unilever’s chairman Niall FitzGerald has been awarded the Society of Chemical Industry’s (SCI) centenary medal in recognition of his contributions to the food and pharmaceutical industries.
In his acceptance speech, FitzGerald commended Unilever’s researchers who had studied arctic organisms and unlocked some secrets as to why they don’t freeze, giving new knowledge on the control of crystal growth.
The result of this research, he said, was ice cream with a host of new shapes and textures.
The award was presented by Jeroen van der Veer, the world president of SCI, to FitzGerald, who has spent over 30 years with Unilever.
