European consumption of UHT milk doubles
EUROPE – A recent study commissioned by Arla Foods has claimed that consumers in Western Europe are drinking more milk than ever.
It stated that over the last thirty years there has been a 100% increase in UHT sales, while long-life milk now accounts for half of all milk sales in the Western European market.
Countries that have a strong dairy culture, such as Holland, Germany and Belgium, also showed strong growth in UHT sales. In Germany, two out of every three litres is now long life, while in Belgium UHT also dominates the market, according to the AIM report.
Denmark is seeing a trend in the opposite direction, with the survey revealing that more than half of Danish consumers stop using shops that regularly fail to supply fresh milk.
