Saputo gets USA cheese plant

CANADA/USA – Canadian dairy company Saputo announced on Monday that it has bought the ConAgra Foods cheese production plant in Pennsylvania, USA.

The plant, which produces around 13.6 million tonnes of cheese a year, specialises in producing Mozzarella and Provolone cheeses.

Saputo is Canada’s largest dairy processor. Its products are marketed under brands including Saputo, Stella, Frigo, Dairyland and Granny’s.

In February, Saputo completed the acquisition of the fluid milk and cheese operations of Dairyworld Foods for approximately C$407 million (290m euro).
