Milk Group wants 15% of market
The Milk Group, a farmer-owned co-operative operating in central England and Wales, has outlined an ambitious programme of expansion and investment in a bid to become a major player in the UK dairy sector.
Part of the company’s plan is to increase its share of the raw milk market from 700 million litres to three billion. This will be achieved through recruiting milk producer groups, or through group alliances, as well as by developing its existing membership supply base to maximise milk chain efficiencies.
The group’s milk volume already looks set to receive a boost following the announcement that representatives of the Association of Milk Producers have recommended to their 1,000-strong membership that they join the company. If approved, the merger will see the transfer of as much as 1.2 billion litres to The Milk Group, giving it control of more than two billion litres
