Killer bug strikes again in the UK
The UK has suffered another big E coli outbreak. Earlier this month, some 52 people in the North Cumbria area were struck down by the deadly bacteria. Milk from local processor Scales Farm was being linked with the outbreak, although an investigation was still under way as we went to press.
Scales Farm, based in Cockermouth, immediately switched milk suppliers once the possible contamination of its product was identified. A telephone helpline was also set up for those concerned they might be infected.
Of the 52 cases reported, 24 were children
