Somerdale International, an exporter of British and Irish cheese to over 50 countries, has completed a significant investment in its logistics capacity and capabilities. It includes an expansion of its cold store warehousing and distribution hub and installation of a new, fully integrated, supply chain management system.
The investment at Somerdale’s headquarters in Wellington, UK, has resulted in the creation of two additional state-of-the-art cold store facilities to complement its existing three stores. In doing so, it has increased the overall cold storage capacity by around 30% with racking for 250 pallets of cheese now in place. At the same time, Somerdale has also installed a new enterprise-wide warehouse and supply chain management system that will further enhance its levels of customer service, it says.
Commenting on the investment, Somerdale International’s general manager, Di Henderson says, “The expansion of our warehousing and distribution capacity and installation of an enhanced supply chain management system is a major milestone for Somerdale. The investment will significantly increase both our export capacity and capabilities. In doing so, it will reinforce Somerdale’s position as an exporter of British cheese and dairy products across the globe and is integral to our ambitious growth plans for the future.”
