Moves to amalgamate the top milk processors of the Austrian market have already involved the country’s largest dairy Berglandmilch (930 million kg milk and EUR610 million turnover) approaching number four in the league, Tirol Milch, with a partnership proposal. Talks were said to be ongoing.
But now Austria’s number two dairy NoM (EUR370 million turnover) has also shown interest in merging with Tirol Milch, which itself earned a turnover of EUR154 million (2008) and processes around 220 m kg milk. Local news sources say an actual offer for a takeover was made by NoM in the first days of July, although both dairies declined to comment.
