German dairy reaches milestone
The Ammerland dairy in northwest Germany celebrated crossing the billion kg of milk per year mark at the end of 2009.
This represents a 4.6% rise on the year after a similar increase between 2007 and 2008.
Ammerland, with two plants and an annual cheese output of 66,500 tonnes, also produces 86,000 tonnes of milk, yogurt, butter, cream and dairy desserts.
Over 40% of its turnover is earned by exports to 40 countries. Among the best-selling products from this dairy are pre-packed slicing cheeses including Edam and Gouda.
