The bass guitarist from British rock band Blur has picked up an award of a different kind after winning the “Best Soft White Cheese Award‚” at this year’s British Cheese Awards.

Little Wallop was created in 2007 by Juliet Harbutt, in conjunction with Peter Humphries of White Lake Cheese, for the Evenlode Partnership, which is a joint venture between Alex James, the bass guitarist from Blur, and Harbutt.

The results were announced at an awards dinner held at the National Museum in Cardiff on September 25.

The cheese has a soft white rind that is lightly washed in Somerset Brandy then wrapped in a vine leaf. When ripe it is runny with a yeasty taste that hints of apples and nuts with an aromatic finish.

It is available from Daylesford Organic, Yellowwedge, Town Mill Cheesemongers, Harrods and other small cheese retailers.
