The board of directors at Dairy Farmers of America has approved a special cash payment to members in an effort to ease the economic burdens facing the dairy industry.

The $9.5 million payment, which is equivalent to five cents per hundredweight for milk marketed through DFA from January to June, will be issued to 10,750 member farms active as of 30 June 2009.
