Yili imports melamine testing equipment

Chinese dairy company Yili says it has spent about $15m (€11.6m) on importing melamine testing equipment from the US and Japan to restore confidence in the wake of the melamine scandal.

It has also reportedly sent 25% of its staff to view privately run milk stations around the country.

Company executive Zhang Jianqui told journalists during a press visit to the firm’s processing and packaging facilities at Hohhot, central northern China: “Problems did occur with our products but that was a very limited few and we are doing everything we can to clean it up.”

Meanwhile, dairy producers in central northern China are to receive 180m yuan (€20.4m) subsidies from the Inner Mongolian regional government to compensate them for plummeting sales.
