Market must boost dairy confidence

The supply chain must act now to help dairy farmers meet the cost of complying with the forthcoming Nitrate Vulnerable Zones action programme and boost confidence in the industry’s long term future, the National Farmers Union (NFU) has warned.

NFU Dairy Board chairman Gwyn Jones welcomed Marks and Spencer’s announcement of a bonus for its dairy farmers to help them make the investments needed to comply with the programme but said other retailers and milk buyers needed to show the same commitment.
