Arla Denmark launches protein water

With Arla Protein Water, Arla is now expanding its protein portfolio in Denmark with a water-based protein drink. The demand for protein among Danes is rapidly increasing, and while Arla already has a wide range of protein-rich products, there has been a lack of a water-based alternative. Arla Protein Water is based on whey protein from milk and is developed as a supplement to Arla’s existing protein products. Where protein was previously primarily associated with sports and exercise, the category is now being used more broadly by consumers seeking easy options on the go, after activities, or as part of a busy lifestyle.
“Protein is no longer a niche. It has become a part of many consumers’ daily choices, and therefore we also see a demand for new formats. With Arla Protein Water, we provide consumers with a fresh and easy way to choose protein while building on our strong expertise in milk and whey protein,” says Henrik Lilballe Hansen, managing director at Arla Denmark.
Arla Protein Water is not intended to replace regular water, but is meant for those situations where consumers are looking for a product with protein.
The product was launched 1 November 2026, at locations including gas stations and fitness centres, as many consumers here seek functional products on the go. At the same time, this launch provides an opportunity to gradually build experience with the category and the demand.
