Where the market is

When in Brazil, what you realise quickly is that it is a very large country, and has very large urban areas. You also realise that there is much interest in Brazilian trade, as aircraft from around the world are parked at Sao Paulo airport. Not only the Portugese national airline, but flags of many nations. It goes to show how Brazil is coming forward as the market to be in.

However, the market for dairy there is becoming very large as well, with Euromonitor estimating the industry being worth BRL 62 billion (€17.7bn) in 2013, making it fourth place in dairy production worldwide. Between 2009 and 2013, the Brazilian dairy sector grew by 61 per cent – numbers that any European dairy processor would envy.

Part of its success also comes down to packaging, which is why Tetra Pak debuted its electron beam filling machine to the world at a Brazilian packaging show. Being there was a logical step for a company that trades on packaging for its income. In fact, Tetra Pak estimates that Brazil and Paraguay are its second largest market worldwide, and that 13 billion of its packages were sold in Brazil in 2013 alone. Staggering numbers.
