Butter prices start to slide in Germany

Falling demand meant butter prices took a knock in German wholesale markets last month.

The retail price rises of up to 50% in the summer resulted in butter being left on the shelves nationwide with a 32% drop in sales in August compared with the same month in 2006, despite the discounters avoiding the huge price increases seen in other outlets.
