Gay Lea to merge with Agropur

Canadian Gay Lea Foods intends to merge with the dairy co-operative Agropur, combining the two largest dairy co-operatives in Canada.

Chair of the Gay Lea board Ralph Dietrich says that if the merger goes through, it will create a nation-wide company making producers more competitive in the marketplace. No timeline for the merger has been given, but Dietrich says it is now a top priority for the company.
Agropur is made up of nearly 4,000 dairy producers, processing nearly two billion litres of milk a year with 4,000 employees, 21 plants, and sales hitting $2.3 billion (
