US dairy exports reach €2.4bn in seven months
The US dairy export market has increased by 16% versus last year with €2.4 billion in value during January-July 2012, according to the US Department of Agricultures’s Foreign Agricultural Service. This is greater than the value of all US dairy exports in all but three entire years (2008, 2010 and 2011). Meanwhile, the value of US dairy imports were also up by 12% to €1.2bn, versus the first seven months of 2011.
Cheese exports during the first seven months amounted to 358.7 million pounds, an increase of 20% against 2011’s figures. Mexico was a top destination for US exports, followed by Canada and China. Top importers into the US were New Zealand, Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland and Germany.
