The United States Agency for International Development (Usaid) has extended a grant of RWF58 million (€62,200) to the Rwandan dairy industry in order to strengthen the Rwandan National Dairy Platform and to implement the sector’s strategy. The money goes to the independent platform, which serves as a voice for the industry producers and dealers. Milk production in the country has increased by 11% over the last two years under a government-backed scheme giving households free cows. Output was 503,130 tonnes in 2012.
