Belton wins at Bath & West

UK company Belton Cheese saw its traditional Cheshire cheese named as best English cheese at the 2014 British Cheese Awards, held at the Royal Bath and West Show. Pictured, Daniel Hammer presented the award for best English cheese to Phil Jones and Alison Taylor of Belton Cheese. It also collected another 21 awards for its cheese. The British Cheese Awards kicks off the show season, with 177 cheese makers and 1,014 cheeses on display.
Two years ago, Belton made the decision to go back to making handcrafted traditional Cheshire cheese. This has has earned it a number of new listings in the UK and as far afield as Russia. Cheshire Cheese has a long history and is Britain¹s oldest cheese it has a mention in the Domesday book.
Commenting on the win, Justin Beckett, managing director says, “We are absolutely delighted to have won the award for Best English Cheese with a traditional Cheshire, as this is our local speciality and very close to our hearts. This is a fantastic start to the show season.”
