Arla buys Tholstrup Cheese of Denmark
Danish dairy Arla Foods has purchased Tholstrup Cheese, which produces cream and mould cheese in Denmark, and Michigan in the US.
Tholstrup has a strong presence in Germany, the Nordic countries and North America, with 82% of its products being exported. Its international moulded cheese brand, Costello, is set to become Arla’s primary brand, according to Peter Tuborgh, ceo of Arla. The company also makes Saga brand cheese and employs 500 people, including 450 in Denmark, producing 17,400 tons of cheese yearly.
“We’re lacking a broad, international range, and Tholstrop has strong brands as well as products of high quality,” he says. “
