Customers told of dairy’s ‘escalating costs’
UK – Sir Don Curry, chairman Industry body Dairy UK, has sent out a letter to major dairy customers detailing major recent cost increases for milk processors and producers.
In the letter, Sir Curry claimed that such cost increases challenge the industry’s long term viability.
According to Dairy UK since spring 2004 energy costs have risen by 33%, and that transport costs have risen by 5% over the last year, with wage costs up 4%. The cost of plastic for packaging liquid milk has risen a staggering 48%.
The letter has been sent to the industry’s top fifty customers in retail, wholesaling, foodservice and food processing.
