It’s time to be reacquainted with milk and dairy as its central to a balanced diet for lifelong health, says The Dairy Council.

Speaking to industry experts and consumers at the BBC Good Food Show, it was stressed that milk and dairy foods matter to both our health and nutrition at all stages of life. Over the course of the show The Dairy Council will be on-hand to discuss the evidence base on milk, dairy, nutrition and health.

The council will exhibit its diverse range of nutritional information for consumers. From infants, schoolchildren, teenagers, pregnancy to older age, for males and females, there are nutrient concerns specific to each stage of life, and milk and dairy contribute some key nutrients at specific life stages.

“Milk and dairy foods are staples of the British diet and provide a number of essential nutrients that are beneficial for health across the lifespan,” says Dr Anne Mullen, director of nutrition at The Dairy Council.

“Milk is a very complex food and our nutrition knowledge of this traditional food is evolving continuously. There is a strong body of research that stresses the nutritional qualities of dairy, and shows that dairy can help to address a range of health concerns that affect different age groups and genders in the UK,” she adds.

“Worryingly however there are a lot of misconceptions about milk and dairy, and therefore it is our aim to address these claims head on and provide the public with accurate, evidence-based information about health and nutrition,” she concludes.
