Austria sees milk prices improve

AgrarMarkt Austria (AMA) says it sees hope for an improvement for Austrian dairy farmers, as milk payments for August reached €0.2992/kg (4.2% fat and 3.4% protein) in August. This is a slight increase from €0.27/kg. However, in the previous timeframe of a year ago, milk prices were around €0.3286/kg, or almost 9% more than in 2016. September payments for milk have since steadied at €0.2990/kg.
In August, 245,089 tons of milk were delivered in Austria. The milk supply is following the seasonal trend and was 3.6% below the previous year’s level.
From January to August almost 2% more milk was delivered to the Austrian dairies. It should be noted, however, that the amount of Austrian milk supplied by farmers to dairies in other EU member states is no longer included in the AMA statistics – thus, comparison with the previous year is only possible to a limited extent.
