DMK talks on Bad Bibra site

Deutsches Milchkontor (DMK) has had a second round table with representatives from politics, trade unions and farmers’ associations about a non-dairy use for its Bad Bibra, Germany site. It has also offered solutions to employees affected by the planned closure in 2018. DMK plans to streamline its production capacities at a new location.

The overall objective of the cooperative is to be able to pay a competitive milk price to milk producers. To this end measures are planned that will enable higher added value on the sales side and also include internal organisational changes.

Over the past few weeks, an intensive exchange has taken place between employee representatives, management and supervisory boards about the site.

Klaus A. Hein, managing director of DMK explains, “Even after an intensive examination of various options it must be noted that continued dairy use of the Bad Bibra site is not possible. The proposal to generate additional milk would only be possible if the membership and supply conditions of the farms corresponded to the cooperative principles of DMK. A preferential treatment for a small group of farmers will not be accepted by the members of the cooperative.” DMK reaffirmed its commitment to support non-dairy reuse of the Bad Bibra site.
