Lakeland Dairies wins Lux Award

Following the company’s investment in energy-saving lighting systems at its logistics centre in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, the Lakeland Dairies received a Lux Award 2017 for the best industrial and transport lighting project of the year with lighting specialist Resourceable in Belfast.
As part of its focus on environmental sustainability, the Lakeland Dairies group is reportedly saving around £50,000 (€56,000) a year and almost 400 tonnes of carbon at its logistics complex in Northern Ireland.
The Lux Awards celebrate and reward both creativity and sustainability, recognising clients and end-users which have used lighting to improve their lit environment, reduce energy and achieve business objectives.
When the company identified the need for further energy and carbon savings in Newtownards, Resourceable was chosen to upgrade lighting there, the group’s main export hub for its wide range of dairy products.
Tim Acheson, general manager at the Newtownards plant, says, “Resourceable delivered a high quality lighting upgrade which has reduced our electricity costs and transformed our site.
“Light levels, uniformity and colour rendering are excellent. The project reduced lighting running costs and carbon output underpinning our ongoing commitment to the environment.”
With partners, electrical specialists Scotts, Resourceable installed and commissioned 400 LED luminaires from Dextra, to deliver optimum lighting performance for Lakeland’s Newtownards plant.
