Cows invade Sainsbury over GM row
UK — Shoppers in London got a shock when over 30 costume cows invaded a Sainsbury’s store.
The stunt was in protest against what Greenpeace called “the supermarket chain’s continued support for the GM industry.” The protest coincided with reports that the UK’s government is set to give the go-ahead for the growing of certain GM crops despite widespread opposition from the general public.
“The GM maize that Tony Blair wants British farmers to grow will mostly be used to feed dairy cows,” said Greenpeace campaigner Emma Gibson. “Sainsbury’s can help stop GM in its tracks by turning its back on this GM milk.”
