UK – The fresh milk and cheese plant formerly owned by the doomed Amelca in
Derbyshire is set to begin processing again.

The plant was bought from Amelca’s bank the Bank of Scotland in 2003 by the newly formed Starcross Foods. The company’s managing director is Neil Robero, who used to work for Haldane Foods, a producer a soy and vegetarian foods. Former Milk Marketing Board director Derek Beresford is also thought to be involved in the project, as are some Amelca’s original investors.

The company has ordered new processing equipment for the plant, and is understood to be selling off the cheese line but retaining much of the milk processing equipment.
