First Milk cancels auction
UK – Dairy co-operative First Milk has decided to cancel its February milk auction, as its members scaled down their milk production in the face of a potential UK superlevy, according to the co-op.
The milk would have been sold for March delivery, but First Milk’s 4,000 members showed signs of tightening their milk supply as figures at the end of January showed the UK was set to exceed its annual quota.
Charles Morrish, director of sales at First Milk, said: “Over the last two months or so, our producer members have been scaling back production. As a result, it’s been necessary for us to stop this month’s auction.”
