GERMANY – The country’s largest milk processor Berglandmilch is continuing its policy of launching innovative dairy products, despite suggestions it is struggling.

Unfavourable market conditions are causing significant financial problems, with turnover dropping and the latest reports of company results suggesting it is sliding into the red.

Berglandmilch has reacted with bright new additions to its 450-article product range, although reports suggest there will be some cut-backs to the range, which includes yogurt, butter, cheese and UHT milk.

Typical of the new products is the buttermilk-based carbonated drink, Fidus Buttermilch & Frucht, which is being sold in Austria, Italy and Germany. Added vitamins in this new product include A, C and E along with supplemental fructose and a range of tropical and European fruit flavours. Fidus is Berglandmilch’s functional food label.
