US probe into milk protein and caseins
USA – The Coalition for Nutritional Ingredients has said it is pleased the International Trade Commission (ITC) will launch an investigation regarding US market conditions for milk protein concentrates (MPC), casein and caseinates.
Legislation that has been introduced in both chambers of Congress to impose tariffs on imports of MPC, casein and caseinates is strongly opposed by the coalition.
“We are pleased that the chairman has requested this investigation,” said coalition spokesman Greg Frazier, senior vice president of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), the senior member of the coalition.
“Restricting access to MPC, casein and caseinates would force higher costs to food manufacturers who depend on these imported proteins to make a wide variety of products which consumers enjoy each and every day,” he added.
