SPAIN/PORTUGAL – The Spanish division of Kraft Foods has extended its licensing agreement with research and health product company BioGaia for a further three years.

The agreement gives Kraft the right to use the Sweden-based company’s probiotic bacterium Reuteri in soft cheese sold in Spain and Portugal. Kraft has been selling Mama Louise soft cheese with Reuteri in the two countries since 2000.

Commenting on the news, BioGaia managing director Peter Rothschild said: “It is highly gratifying that the licensees are satisfied with our products and want to extend the agreement. The market for health enhancing foods is expanding rapidly and the major food product manufacturers are becoming increasingly active in this market.”
