USA – The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has approved Tetra Pak’s first aseptic filling technology for HDPE bottles.

The technology, developed by the Sweden-based food processing and packaging company, means that it is possible for companies to commercially fill HDPE containers with low acid products and distribute them without the need for refrigeration.

The Tetra-Plast LFA-20 Asceptic Filling Technology is installed at Jasper Products – a soy and rice milk producer. The system is also suitable for dairy products such as flavoured milks.

The company has worked with Jasper products and process authority, Dover Brooks, to produce the system according to USA regulations. The LFA-20 protects the product after filling with the appropriate barrier technology, and also protects the interior of the bottles before filling with a sealed-neck, hygienic system.

Already in use in Turkey and Argentina, the company hopes that the acceptance of this technology in the USA will lead to its use worldwide.
