Under fives should avoid plant-based drinks

A new consensus recommendation and report, “Healthy Beverage Consumption in Early Childhood,” confirms some good news for the dairy sector, the European Dairy Association reports.

The report, released in the US, represents the consensus of expert representatives from four influential health and nutrition organisations: the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).

Among other things, these groups recommend consumption of cow’s milk by children ages 0-5, calling milk one of two “go-to” beverages for children. The other is water.
