Austrian milk producers down
The number of Austrian milk producers has dropped below the 25,000 mark for the first time, according to Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA). In 2019 there were 25,608 milk producers, which was 963 (or 3.8%) milk-supplying farms more than in 2020.
In percentage terms, the number of milk suppliers in Lower Austria fell the most (- 6.5%) and now stands at 4,162. In Upper Austria 300 farmers stopped their milk deliveries. That means in 2020 the number of active suppliers in the milk-richest state was 6,392.
The number of milk suppliers will also decline in 2021 again, the AMA notes.
